man, i have neglected this thing. this blog has been really like a new born baby. it sounded good while i was making it, but now that its here i haven't really had the time to change its diapers or feed it. that being said, im sorry rob and kev.
first things first- new music.
the new against me! record, new wave is amazing. well written lyrics, great riffs, and sweet chant alongs.
the new rilo kiley - under the blacklight.. i cant put my finger on how i feel about it. this may be one of those records two months from now i look back at this post and apologize for writing what i am about to write about it, but what can you do. not super impressed. its hard to follow up a spectacular album and i feel as if under the blacklight falls a drop shy. now dont get it wrong, i dont hate the record. there are few gems on it..."breakin' up" could very well become the new i will survive....ooooh it feels good to be free. and jenny sounds so goddamn sexy on "dejalo."
ive also been listening to the new christopher denny album age old hunter. this record sounds like a throwback to something that is coming out of the south in the 50's. the record is what june carter cash and bob dylans kid would have sounded like. check out the song "time."
i've also caught a whole bunch of awesome shows lately and i am really angry with myself cause i have not had a good working camera in a while and would have loved to take pictures of a bunch of them, but hopefully i will have one for the fall....the hold steady (who, if you dont me, has been pretty much the only thing i talk when someone asks me about me) KILLED IT in brooklyn at prospect park. i can't wait to see them in september, more on that below. friday i caught the national at the seaport. aside from the early shitty weather and super not so good sound system, they were excellent. boxer is one of the top 3 albums of the year, hands down. after that i went and caught superbad which ruled, and than again that sunday, which also ruled. tuesday night i saw vinnie caruana from the movielife/i am the avalanche play at the internet cafe at redbank. a short set of 8 or so songs, i took a nice stroll down nostalgia lane hearing "hey" and "hand grenade..." one thing ill say, that i have always loved about vinnie since god knows when, the dudes voice - wheter it be on record or live, ALWAYS is dead on. its unreal how tight it is. and he's just a fantastic songwriter. the new song "brooklyn dodgers" is excellent and i will be looking forward to their next release which should hit next spring.
in an attempt to not be a complete elitest, im going to add another subject to discuss. although this is primarily a music/film/comedy/once in a blue moon video game blog, im also going to talk baseball. because it is also entertainment, because i love the yankees, because its my blog and i can do whatever i want and part of the reason why the next two months are my favorite two of the year is yankee baseball. that being said i can not be upset with how the yankees have been playing ball since the all star break. going 30-10 is pretty fantastic baseball. the pitching staff has really stepped it up, esp pettite. and the bats, man have they been alive thank god. oh, and JOBA!
i emailed ernie hudson this week. i hope he gets back to me. he was a ghostbuster for christs sake.
CONTEST!! alright, heres what im gonna do. for the next six weeks things are going to be pretty slow around here with studying for the lsats and working, and im going to try and update this thing when i can..but in the comments section i want suggestions for how i can make my blog grow. so, rob or kevin, whoever can come up with the most creative/succesful way to get more people to read my blog, you will get something awesome that i promise both of you can use. i have been using one of these for a few years now and full support this product, and am positively it will bring as much joy to you as it has for me.
ok, and finally...theres a ton of new york city/nj area shows. heres some shows i will be heading to and some that i may not, depending on the wallot situation.

glad you liked the against me! album. it took me a few listens, but a lot of the songs have really grown on me. the dude has a great voice. beyond the fact that he always sounds angry, his voice has enough depth and resonance to make an otherwise clunky line like "protest songs in response to military aggression" work.
i need to listen to the hold steady, apparently. will do.
i saw the national open for the arcade fire and thought they were terrible. it looked like overwrought blah, and the songs they played all seemed to have the same formula. that said, i can see their stuff being more effective recorded than it was live. i'll be listening to boxer over the next few days and keeping an open mind.
wish i could shoot the shit with you on baseball, but i'm a mets fan. went to atlanta last weekend and watched them sweep the braves - definitely picked the best possible weekend to go.
good luck on the lsat dude. talk to me if you need advice. i struggled at first but ended up doing pretty well.
