no uggos

the new good life album help wanted nights is pretty awesome. tim kasher is one of the best song writers out there today, not to mentioned extremely under rated. his new album was written as a screenplay about a guy who spends a week in a local town hanging with townies and drinking beer. standout tracks- heartbroke, keely aimee & some tragedy.

how many awesome lines were in last nights episode of conchords. gingerballs. music code. this show is just so awesome. very stoked for a second season.

this week is going to determine the rest of the year for the yankees... this series with boston is huge. if they get swept, they are pretty much done...7. 5 behind boston to win the division will be impossible if they drop 2 or more this week. as for the wild card, being 2 games back isnt the worst spot and you still have a whole month of baseball which anything could happen in, and the yankees do play awesome late season baseball, but they really need to start to go on winning streaks. mussina is pitching tonight. hopefully he doesnt do his usual shit his pants routine.

things are slow. i hate mondays. i have way too much shit on my mind. i need a slice and a root beer.

baa baa bum

man, i have neglected this thing. this blog has been really like a new born baby. it sounded good while i was making it, but now that its here i haven't really had the time to change its diapers or feed it. that being said, im sorry rob and kev.

first things first- new music.
the new against me! record, new wave is amazing. well written lyrics, great riffs, and sweet chant alongs.
the new rilo kiley - under the blacklight.. i cant put my finger on how i feel about it. this may be one of those records two months from now i look back at this post and apologize for writing what i am about to write about it, but what can you do. not super impressed. its hard to follow up a spectacular album and i feel as if under the blacklight falls a drop shy. now dont get it wrong, i dont hate the record. there are few gems on it..."breakin' up" could very well become the new i will survive....ooooh it feels good to be free. and jenny sounds so goddamn sexy on "dejalo."
ive also been listening to the new christopher denny album age old hunter. this record sounds like a throwback to something that is coming out of the south in the 50's. the record is what june carter cash and bob dylans kid would have sounded like. check out the song "time."

i've also caught a whole bunch of awesome shows lately and i am really angry with myself cause i have not had a good working camera in a while and would have loved to take pictures of a bunch of them, but hopefully i will have one for the fall....the hold steady (who, if you dont me, has been pretty much the only thing i talk when someone asks me about me) KILLED IT in brooklyn at prospect park. i can't wait to see them in september, more on that below. friday i caught the national at the seaport. aside from the early shitty weather and super not so good sound system, they were excellent. boxer is one of the top 3 albums of the year, hands down. after that i went and caught superbad which ruled, and than again that sunday, which also ruled. tuesday night i saw vinnie caruana from the movielife/i am the avalanche play at the internet cafe at redbank. a short set of 8 or so songs, i took a nice stroll down nostalgia lane hearing "hey" and "hand grenade..." one thing ill say, that i have always loved about vinnie since god knows when, the dudes voice - wheter it be on record or live, ALWAYS is dead on. its unreal how tight it is. and he's just a fantastic songwriter. the new song "brooklyn dodgers" is excellent and i will be looking forward to their next release which should hit next spring.

in an attempt to not be a complete elitest, im going to add another subject to discuss. although this is primarily a music/film/comedy/once in a blue moon video game blog, im also going to talk baseball. because it is also entertainment, because i love the yankees, because its my blog and i can do whatever i want and part of the reason why the next two months are my favorite two of the year is yankee baseball. that being said i can not be upset with how the yankees have been playing ball since the all star break. going 30-10 is pretty fantastic baseball. the pitching staff has really stepped it up, esp pettite. and the bats, man have they been alive thank god. oh, and JOBA!

i emailed ernie hudson this week. i hope he gets back to me. he was a ghostbuster for christs sake.

CONTEST!! alright, heres what im gonna do. for the next six weeks things are going to be pretty slow around here with studying for the lsats and working, and im going to try and update this thing when i can..but in the comments section i want suggestions for how i can make my blog grow. so, rob or kevin, whoever can come up with the most creative/succesful way to get more people to read my blog, you will get something awesome that i promise both of you can use. i have been using one of these for a few years now and full support this product, and am positively it will bring as much joy to you as it has for me.

ok, and finally...theres a ton of new york city/nj area shows. heres some shows i will be heading to and some that i may not, depending on the wallot situation.

oh yeah new Michael Gondry film staring Jack Black & Mos Def where Jack Black has this thing where he erases all of the movies and they have to go back and reshoot them...

and your bird can sing

Hello Hello. So its been about two weeks since I began this little project and I have already started to somewhat slack. I am trying to find a good groove to get into. I apologize for letting you all down. I really have. I am now the worst blogger ever. I really should hang up my keyboard and call it a day. Well, to be honest I only have one reader right now. So Kevin, I am sorry. I hope Superbad was good last night and I am sorry you can not make it to the Hold Steady this evening.

For those of you who do read the blog and "lurk" (its an industry term) Kevin is the former Afro toting gentleman who slaves over hot phones at collegehumordotcom. here is a link to him in all of his glory. Boy do I miss that fro.

So its Thursday, August 9th. After work I am heading into Brooklyn for my second most obsessed band of 2007 live this evening at Prospect Park. I am super stoked, as RollingStone just named them the 9th best live band to see today. I saw the Stripes a couple weeks back, they def do kick some serious ass live. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION TIME! anyone who writes who they have seen live on that list, or who should have been on that list, someone you have seen recently that rules, or if you just want to write in a good joke or any letter of the alphabet, and your name isn't Kevin Corrigan, I will send you something special.

I also went to see my #1 most obsessed band a few weeks back lead singer, Mr. Jesse Lacey at my favorite venue, Maxwells. Him and Kevin Devine have been playing 2 hour sets filled with mash up versions of each others songs and tons of different covers. head over to livejournal.com/community/brand_new for some live boots of the show.

I went a saw the TEN this past friday. Excellent movie. Im not going to say much about it because I want EVERYONE to go see it atleast TWICE. Its opening this week in Princeton, Montclair and Red Bank.

Finally, I am obsessed with the HBO show Flight of the Conchords. youtube it or whatever, but these dudes are super funny.

EDIT: MY LINKS DONT WORK. I WILL FIX THEM LATER.
